Overview
An Exciting Opportunity: After its remarkable success in previous years, OOPSLA is again hosting an ACM SIGPLAN Student Research Competition (sponsored by Microsoft Research); see ACM's description for details. The first round of evaluation will be held jointly with the OOPSLA Poster Session. The ACM SIGPLAN Student Research Competition shares the Poster session's goal to facilitate students' interaction with researchers and to provide both sides with the opportunity to learn of ongoing, current research. Additionally, the Student Research Competition affords students with experience with both formal presentations and evaluations.

Participants can receive up to $500 in travel grants that can be used towards transportation and accommodation costs.

Submission Process
Electronic submission of proposals is required through the OOPSLA submission system.

Interested students must submit a two-page abstract and a poster outline to this track, following the standard Poster session guidelines.

Please do not submit your poster to both the student research competition and the poster track!

Submissions will be reviewed by a committee and about ten students will be chosen to participate in the competition. These students will discuss their work with competition judges (and conference attendees) during the regular, highly interactive Poster session. The judges will evaluate the research on its quality, uniqueness, significance of the work, as well as the clarity of the presentation and the informal discussion. Three semi-finalists chosen from this round of competition will present their research during a private, dedicated conference session. The Student Research Competition winners will be recognized prior to the keynote speaker on the last day of the conference.

Student Research Competition posters are advertised in the Final Program, and authors' two-page extended abstracts will appear in the OOPSLA 2007 Conference Companion, which will be distributed at OOPSLA 2007. Attendees will be able to learn more about individual posters continuously during the whole of the conference.
